The Jagungal Journey is a classic ski tour about covering distance to a remote beautiful location more so than a backcountry ski tour. Whilst there are some descents to be had including skiing off Mt Jagungal much of the journey is through the beautiful undulating terrain in the alpine & snowgums. The vista of the Main Range from the summit of Mt Jagungal reveals the remoteness of this magical location.
This is a challenging tour over 60km with 20km days which requires a high level of fitness, backcountry skiing experience & advanced skiing skills. Lightweight equipment is essential i.e. pin tech bindings & a scale Alpine Touring Ski more suited to the undulating terrain. Climbing skins will also be used for the steeper climbs, difficult surface conditions & to maintain efficiency. Frame & hybrid bindings are not suitable for this tour!
Simplistic systems will help to lighten the load. SMBC will be supply backpack, lightweight shelter, sleeping bag & sleeping mat. The guide will do all of the cooking & carry the stove & participants will carry their food.
