SMBC is founded on over 30 years skiing & guiding experience in the Snowy Mountains with an intimate knowledge of the local backcountry & want to share their deep passion for adventure with you. A variety of programs are offered from introductory backcountry courses through to demanding arduous tours. There is a pathway from a beginner BC skier to a ski mountaineer. If SMBC staff are not guiding you’ll probably find them in the mountains doing what they love.....being in the mountains!

SMBC HQ
SMBC is located in the Guthega Mountain Centre at Guthega in Perisher Resort nestled in between the Perisher Range & the Main Range with the upper Snowy River flowing very nearby. With the superb ski touring slopes of the Main Range, Guthega River area & The Paralyser Range at the doorstep it is ideally located in the sub alpine at one of the best trail head departure points for backcountry touring in the Australia Alps. This is where our tours commence starting off with an Equipment Famil, Route Overview & Safety Brief.
At HQ we have Backcountry Rentals including Alpine Touring skis, climbing skins, adjustable poles & snowshoes. If you would like to hire please note on your booking form, we also retail a range of backcountry essentials. if you are heading out on a backcountry mission come & see us for those last minute essential items. Or if you are ducking back in to resupply or replace broken items we are there for you right at the trail head; gas, food, drink bottles, maps & lots of other needy items. See our STORE page

SMBC operations are based in the Snowy Mountains of NSW located in the The Kosciuszko National Park. The Snowy Mountains is the largest area of the Australian Alps with 250sq.km of truly alpine terrain, the 100sq.km around Mt. Kosciuszko is home to Australia's highest mountains, glacial lakes & landscapes, unique plants & animals some of which are endemic to the area. SMBC is committed to conserving & preserving the flora & fauna & minimising their impact on the parklands. We work closely with the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service to ensure that operations are in line with rules & regulations set out for Commercial Tour Operators. We regard it as a privilege to operate in this area recognised by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve & abide by the LEAVE NO TRACE OUTDOOR ETHIC
