MORE DETAIL

Mt Tate Tour: Starting from our HQ at Guthega this tour circumnavigates the Guthega River drainage with excellent vista's to the Main Range including Kosciuszko, down to the charming Guthega ski village & along the Snowy River. After crossing the Guthega Dam Wall (the highest & first dam of the Snowy Scheme finished in 1955) we gain Guthega Trig & head for Consett Stephen Pass then onto Mt Tate, along Tate East Ridge & back down to Guthega Pondage. Tours out of Guthega also offer bad weather alternatives as we start in the protection of the Sub Alpine at 1670m. This snowshoe tour is a great altenative to a Kosciuszko tour with different & equally as stunning Main Range alpine views & without the cost of a chairlift ride.

Mt Kosciuszko: it will be the client’s responsibility to be at the ticket office at Valley Terminal in Thredbo by 8:00a.m. It is essential that the group leaves as soon as the chairlift opens at 8:30am sharp & has returned at a suitable time to ride the chairlift down. Each person must have a return ticket  to ride the Kosciuszko Chair lift at the beginning & end of the tour. This tour is 13km return & without the chairlfit support is not achievable. We will do our best to get you to the summit  but depending on conditions & the groups endurance the guide may have to turnabout as we need to make the last lift in a suitable time. Time management is a big part of our Risk Management Strategy, this tour is very special regardless of the outcomes, there is no shame in not summiting. The tour is entirely in the treeless Alpine terrain which affords very little shelter & can experience incredible wind speeds. Suitable conditions will be required on the day & correct equipment as per the SNOWSHOE EQUIPMENT LIST is essential.

PLEASE NOTE: a full days snowshoeing in fresh snow could see a tour rated as Moderate very easily become Advanced, therefore intended route plans may become amended. This would be at the discretion of the guide as safety is our priority.

For all Full Day tours it is essential that participants are thoroughly kitted up with everything listed on the SNOWSHOE EQUIPMENT LIST.
