3 Pks HIGH ROUTE
SMBC's 3Pks High Route tour is arguably the most scenic ski touring route in the Australian Alps taking in the countries 3 highest pks; Mt Kosciuszko, Mt Townsend & Mt Twynam. Commencing in Guthega & finishing in Thredbo this is a classic European style ski tour with ascents, descents & ridge top touring through Australia's highest mountains with incredible vistas into Victoria, over the Monaro, northward to Jagungal & the Bridabella's.
This tour is for skiers with a strong level of fitness & good skiing ability (we do offer splitboard tours but unfortunately the 3Pks tour isn't suitable for splitboarding). Depending upon your fitness level it may take any where up to 10hrs to complete, which is very doable as we make an early start. As long as you fit the criteria we can travel at a suitable pace to get through, this is an amazing ski touring experience! If you are unsure of your suitability we can discuss further or come along on an SMBC tour & we will grade your suitability. SKIMO
Skimo is short for Ski Mountaineering! It is about racing up & down mountains in the backcountry over a set distance. In the Northern hemisphere Skimo racing has become huge. Summer endurance athletes have historically gotten into Skimo racing to keep fit during the off season but now the coin has flipped. Skimo racers are getting into dry land/summer training off season to keep fit for winter Skimo pursuit!
SMBC's 3Pks High Route is the perfect training mission for endurance athletes covering 25km with 1700m of ascent. Our guides Rohan & Rod completed it in under 5hrs & they are chomping at the bit to guide this route.

The 3 Peaks Tour with Snowy Mountains Backcountry was one of my best ever days in the mountains.
The route which climbed Australia's 3 highest peaks had great skinning, picturesque views of the Snowy Mountains and unforgettable descents. The highlight was definitely laying fresh tracks on the descent off Mt Kosciusko. To top off a great day we enjoyed a beer in the sun at Thredbo following the fun shred into the village.
Doug did a good job describing the route and safety precautions in Guthega before starting the tour and Rohan was a great guide - knowledgeable and professional but also a lot of fun.
I'd recommend the 3 Peaks Tour to any skiers looking for a true Aussie back country experience and Snowy Mountains Backcountry to anyone looking for a back country adventure or just wanting to improve their knowledge and skills.
