SMBC's 3Pks High Route is arguably the most scenic ski touring route in the Australian Alps. This tour takes in the countries 3 highest pks; Mt Kosciuszko, Mt Townsend & Mt Twynam. Commencing in Guthega & finishing in Thredbo this is a classic European style ski tour with ascents, descents & ridge top touring affording incredible vistas. The 3 Peaks Tour with Snowy Mountains Backcountry was one of my best ever days in the mountains.
The route which climbed Australia's 3 highest peaks had great skinning, picturesque views of the Snowy Mountains and unforgettable descents. The highlight was definitely laying fresh tracks on the descent off Mt Kosciusko. To top off a great day we enjoyed a beer in the sun at Thredbo following the fun shred into the village.
Doug did a good job describing the route and safety precautions in Guthega before starting the tour and Rohan was a great guide - knowledgeable and professional but also a lot of fun.
I'd recommend the 3 Peaks Tour to any skiers looking for a true Aussie back country experience and Snowy Mountains Backcountry to anyone looking for a back country adventure or just wanting to improve their knowledge and skills.
